2 Tips to Soothe Your Gum Tissue After Getting a Same-Day Crown Installed

Posted on

Many dentists will offer a same-day crown installation that can save you the trouble of having to make multiple visits to your dentist's office. A traditional crown involves preparing your tooth for a permanent crown by wearing a temporary crown. However, during a same-day crown installation, you will bypass the temporary and receive your permanent crown almost immediately. The same-day crown is meant to fit tightly around your tooth in order to fully protect it from further decay. This type of fitting can result in soreness around your gum tissue. This soreness reduces as your tooth and gums become more acquainted with the crown. However, for the time being, it can be painful. Fortunately, there are a few tips that you can use to help soothe this gum tissue.

Gargle with warm salt water

Salt water is frequently used as an easy dental wash to help treat bacterial infections. However, the dental wash also has soothing properties. The warm salt-water mixture can help to relax the gum tissue around your crown and ease inflammation. A warm salt-water dental wash can be constructed from your kitchen using hot water and salt. Pour the hot water into a cup and add a few tablespoons of salt. Wait for the salt to dissolve, and also give a few extra minutes for the water to cool. Once the water is warm, mix the dental ash around and use it to gargle. Hold the dental wash near your gum line for a few seconds, and then spit and repeat this process.

Rinse with barley-grass mouthwash

The inflammation that develops near your gum line after you get your same-day crown can make it difficult for you to eat. In order to help this, you should use a barley-grass mouthwash to soothe your gums. Barley grass is often used for dental treatments because it is a natural anti-inflammatory. It has the ability to ease your redness and pain without damaging your gums. In order to make a barley-grass mouthwash, simply add in a half a cup of the herb to a pot of water. Add in a handful of peppermint leaves as well. Bring the pot to a boil, and then remove it from the stove and squeeze in a few drops of lemon juice. Work the herbal mouthwash along your gum line. Hold it near your same-day crowns for a few minutes and then spit out the mixture.

Same-day crowns can make the crown-installation process much easier to endure. However, sore gums can lead to pain and discomfort. Therefore, make sure that you are able to deal with any discomfort that comes afterward. Talk to your dentist if you continue to experience pain.
